President and Vice President Basics
Once upon a time, in America, the people wanted their freedom from Great Britain. So we beat them in the Revolutionary War and established our own Government.
At first, since we were scared of giving someone too much power, we wrote the Articles of Confederation so that we would have a weak Federal Government. That didn't work out at all.
So we came up with something else called the Constitution. It gave much more power to the Federal Government, established the three branches of Goernment, and also gave them the power of Checks and Balances in order to keep one branch from getting too powerful.
Then the people wondered who would be the head of our Government, and they came up with the President, someone who would be elected by the people (through the Electoral College) and lead our country well, and with the help of their branch, which was the Executive Branch, and the other two branches. This is the Story of the Executive Branch.
