Electing the President
When we did decide that we wanted a Democracy for our new nation, the issue of how we were going to elect our President came about.
"Well, of course, they have to be men. And white. And have land. No need to count the vote of people who aren't smart enough to have a decent amount of land," they said.
"But what if they still vote for the wrong person?" Someone asked.
"I've got it!" Said another. "We just make an Electoral College. It will include the American citizens in the vote, but their decision will go through people far more educated then they are, so they can decide whether or not to actually vote for them!"
"Brilliant!" The rest of them shouted.
And we still have the Electoral College today.
